January 23rd, 2009

Today is a big day for ArenaCast, and that’s not just because it’s the third episode of the year, the patch has finally been released, or it’s Barack Obama’s first full day as President, and, no, it’s not just because we’ve revealed our website.

Website, you say? Yes, I know what you’re thinking. “That’s not a website, it’s a boring and generic piece of Wordpress crap!” I told JP that too, but he was all, “KOTAKU LOOKS BORING AND GENERIC AND I WANT TO BE LIKE THEM!” So, whatever. It’s quick, easy, and clean, and it’ll let us do some neat things, like host direct downloads of all our shows (we’re in the process of uploading them all right now) and the ArenaCast soundboard, post news, and write blogs making fun of each other.

Anyway, big things…

Tonight should be a fun show. If you follow the eSports scene at all, you probably know about the death of the CGS and subsequent rebirth of compLexity. We’re lucky to have the opportunity to break some big news regarding compLexity tonight, live, on the cast. We’ll have a segment with coL co-owner Alex “JaX” Conroy discussing it as well as much, much, more, so don’t miss it!

Now’s the perfect time to watch ArenaCast!

Now’s the perfect time to listen to ArenaCast!

Now

If you listened to last week’s show, you probably noticed we added a new segment where we whine about how boring Neilyo duel clips are. In partnership with Warcraftmovies.com, we’re making PvP Movie Reviews a regular part of the show. We’ll have more about Warcraftmovies.com thing later, but for now, we’re going to subject you to more meaningless ramblings and ratings as we work out a system for it. Tonight, we’ll be reviewing the hot new release The Fat Cow 9, featuring a furor of furry feral fury by the bovine beast himself. As well as more boring duels. Such is life. If you guys have any suggestions on how we should handle future reviews as well as the kind of things you’d like to hear about or look for when watching PvP movies, let us know.

In addition to the website, we’re (by we I mean Bill) doing some other fun stuff on the technology side of things, like developing a tool that will scout the Xfire streams of pro Arena players and announce if they are currently streaming a game to both the website and our new IRC channel, #arenacast. That should make it quite a bit easier to find out when someone worth watching is actually streaming, since you don’t have to troll the Xfire site to find out; you can troll our IRC channel instead, which is a lot more fun since it’s interactive, and full of many of the very people on whom you fulfill your voyeuristic fix.

We already have a list of streams posted in the convenient Xfire tab, so if you’re a high-level Arena master and want people to know it, contact us and we can add you to the list.

8PM CST tonight, as usual! Don’t miss it! We’ll have the usual suspects on and an action-packed show full of vanished blinds, awkward silence, Hunters (although not as many as last week), and the aforementioned compLexity announcement. Below is the Ustream.tv embed, but this will be in a lot of places tonight. Also direct all questions to questions@arenacast.net please from now on.
