I don’t think battlegrounds are the right way at all. The whole argument for WOW as a Espot needs a objective is kinda dumb to me. It wont be interesting watching someone trying to play capture the flag with WOW, it will be even harder to really follow whats going then arena. Explaining to someone watching is just as easy showing that the team is trying to kill the other team as it is to capture the flag. With BGs you will miss a lot of the great plays that go on. I think 3v3 arena is fine for WOW as a Esport and should stay the focus of it.
I think you guys are too fixated on LAN as the only possible type of competition. LANs suck because transportation/housing costs create a stagnant, exclusive system that a 10 man team would exacerbate.
WoW needs to play to its strengths: online and multiplayer. Make some sort of in game semiannual league in which guilds can compete for prizes. I know this has been suggested before for arena, but I think the idea of guild-based PVP “raiding” would be more successful.
I’d also like to take a comment block to wish you best of luck with your new SC2 projects JP. I’d also like to say that this cast is pretty much the only PvP podcast around (rest are a bunch of fucking carebears who hate PvP) and I appreciate you working to make sure that you guys got out episodes even if there wasn’t always a consistent schedule. Listened to your first couple episodes of your SC podcast (thanks for the link from here) and they are a solid start, keep it up!
