Kollektiv’s Kool Mods For Kool Kids

Posted by kollektiv in Stuff Not Worth Reading

Hi, Kollektiv here. I’m going to be creating mods designed specifically towards arena which will only be available here. If you use some of my current mods they will be moved off Curse and WoWInterface in the near future to here. Got a feature request or suggestion? Post a comment!

There have been a lot of requests for a mod that hides totems/pet nameplates and show casting bars on every nameplate in arena. Subsequently mod makers have said it’s impossible. Well it turns out to be possible and I will now be releasing it as a mod called Overhead. Currently it has two simple features

  1. Hides non-player nameplates in arena (totems, pets, mirror images, etc) and Note: The nameplates aren’t actually hidden, just the art is so you’ll still see them shuffle around if they’re clustered
  2. Displays castbars on all enemy nameplates regardless of target selection.

It’s highly recommended to uninstall other nameplate mods (ie Aloft). Find the link at the bottom of this post. Special thanks to Kassay for the idea.

Only works in arenas!

Enjoy!

Anyone else having trouble getting this to work?

It’ll only work in arenas and will probably conflict with Aloft.

Targetting the DK with the castbars of the two priests still showing.
Gonna try to get a better screenshot with Shaman totems and channeling spells if I can.

Would have prefered to see a modification of Aloft instead.

Aloft is extremely popular, I dont know many people that still use default nameplates at all anymore. This mod would be very nice if it actually worked with Aloft. Unforunately I wouldnt want to give up aloft to go back to default for this though :(

Hey, cool mod, I can’t help myself for asking about a mod Serennia said you made for him that was a rune mod, I saw a small clip I beliee he was using it in and was wondering if you have released a version or if it was only for him.

is there a way for you to make a mod that uses a tomtom-like psuedo 3d display (the questhelper arrow/the gathering profession node display) to track and show where your teammates are in an arena relative to you based on the information you get from their minimap icon position?

also, maybe i’m the only one, but i’d love a very simple mod that gave healers a better view of pet health for arena team mates, and nothing else. whether it was just unlock/draggable/scalable normal pet windows, or a grouping of Grid like pet health squares, whatever.

Oh wow, I always wanted a mode like this, helps when neilyoing those fears and reflecting those polymorphs. Thanks for the great add on, can’t wait for the whole ui. :O

Mod looks great! Since you’re accepting suggestions, I’d love to have a filter worked in. For instance I’d be highly interested in seeing name plates for specific totems.

    hi

great addon, however i have got this strange issue with the castbar background graphics not aligning with the castbar.

check the druid castbar in this picture (the castbar is wider than the healthbar, and thus the cast graphic does not fit): http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/355/wowscrnshot020709232751li5.jpg

this is how it looks outside of arena or with this mod disabled:
    http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/939/wowscrnshot020709235436hf0.jpg

First thoguth was that some other addon screwed it up, so I disabled all addons but yours. This did however not help.

Also noticed that the nameplates/castbars in danyos screenshot are wider than my default nameplates.
Is there a setting in the default ui to change the size of the nameplate/castbar that i am missing? if i could change that the cast bar graphics would match the background/border graphic.

It seems like one of your addons is modifying the scale of the WorldFrame. I’ll add in support to check the scale so it sizes correctly in the next release. Can you check by typing ‘/script print(WorldFrame:GetScale())’ in-game? It should say 1.

Sure, I’ll add in filters to scan for specific names.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I got “1″ by typing /script print(WorldFrame:GetScale()).

I fiddled around in the lua file and I did manage to align the background castbar by editing line 176 and 177 to:

    castbar.border:SetWidth(124)
    castbar.border:SetHeight(30)

Took like 20 skirmishes to get to these settings :)

I’m going to try to install your mod on a fresh wow installation without any other mods or cache files and see what happends.

Is it possible to get this to work in BGs to? Just about to start the honor grind on my shaman, so this would be a huge boon.

    Wintergrasp too maybe?

For some reason the bars just don’t show up at all for friendly targets in arena (whether I enable/disable friendly plates) think there is a conflict some where. Since it’s in the beta guessing bug, will keep checking for updates thanks man great mod.

is there any chance to get some options in this mod so you can maybe turn on water elemental health, dk pet heath and hunter pet health?

    thanks :D

Great mod! Would love an option to cherry pick which things you want to hide and which ones you want to see(tremor and grounding spring to mind).

Is there anyway to make it show totems? I use nameplates a lot on my priest to see tremor totems.

Seems not to work for me. Any command to turn on options for this addon? Trying to fix it on skirmishes but looks like wow just doesn’t see it although it’s turned on. And no, i don’t have aloft.

It would be nice if u can still see the nameplates of your partners so you know where they are.
Also it would be nice if you can see specific nameplates like tremor totem etc.
Thx for this great addon and for all your addons btw!

Would be cool if you could add an optional option to view tremor/grounding totem too..

Your blog is really interesting to me and your topics are very relevant. I was browsing around and came across something you might find interesting. I was guilty of 3 of them with my sites. “99% of blog managers are committing these 5 errors”. http://tinyurl.com/d8r7ejo You will be suprised how easy they are to fix.
