The title really says it all: we’re joining the GotFrag.com community. Why do you care? Well, this means we’ll be able to broadcast matches (not sure about the frequency of this yet) on the MLG Tournament Realm. This also means that the show will be video (although you won’t see me and Keith via webcam — not anytime soon at least).
I wanted to present this to you in audio form but since we haven’t really been the timeliest as of late I just wanted to get the information out there. I’m going to start bitching at players and Keith (as well as myself) to do a show more often as well. I’ve been pretty busy nerding it up in Aion and prepping for graduation as of late and Keith is on the infamous job hunt. Enough of that.
Eventually we plan to move over to the GotFrag portal but for now we’ll be staying here. In the (near) future though things will start to change a little bit — but only visually. ArenaCast will still be the same show, have the same values (uh, what?), and not praise MLG as if they are the almighty organization in the eSports world. It was something I made sure we’d be able to criticize if it needs to be criticized.
Nothing is changing, we’re just growing. Most of the matches played will be exhibition matches (no money) but hopefully down the line we can get something to entice players and teams to want to play in the public eye.
We’ll try to get something up in audio form as soon as possible. I know we’ve sucked about that in the past, uh, what is it now, almost another month? The Orange episode is still going to happen. We would of recorded yesterday (Saturday) at noon but Orange had to play in the GOMtv Prelims with his team. He has all the questions though and will be going over them and we will be recording it.
That’s about it for now. I’ll update again when we have a show (OMGSOONIKNOWSRY) ready to put out and when we start doing matches (sooner then you think) we’ll post those up too. Thanks everyone for sticking around even though we slack. I’d like to mention that “late this weekend” usually means Sunday. See you soon.
Things have been quiet around ArenaCast for the past week or so. That’s because we’ve been pretty busy getting everything situated for whats coming up this weekend.
Can’t talk about much at the moment but expect something late this weekend — something awesome. Like cotton candy, everyone loves that shit.
When I posted last night about the donate button I laughed, thinking we’d never get any donations (which I was totally fine with — I’m a poor college student myself). When I woke up with two e-mails with just over 50$ in donations I was pretty speechless. The day went on and more and more donations kept coming. Right now we’re just shy of $300 which I honestly can’t believe. It may not seem like much to someone of you but trust me, it is.
I have a hard time taking donations like this so most of the time when people messaged me saying they donated I would just tell them shut up or something because I’m not sure what to say other then “Thanks”. Keith wanted to do a little 5 minute audio thank you type thing tonight but I told him since I am getting sick (piglet flu) that I would rather not. Besides, he would of just said, “yall, lets buy up (y)all dem crawfish yall!” or something along those (cajun) lines.
No but seriously: thank you all. Shoutout to Complexity who contacted me about 4:00 p.m. today asking what the donation total was. Shortly after that, it doubled. I can’t thank you Complexity enough. That’s not to say everyone else who donated is on a lesser plane than Complexity — I cant thank any of you enough. I wish we had something to give you other then our hick-ish voices on a podcast. I won’t be posting who donated what other than Complexity . They don’t stop the giving there either. They’re running a contest at the moment and you can win a XFX ATI Radeon 4770 by simply retweeting. For the full contest you can go HERE.
The money will be used first off to improve a couple things around the site (new graphics, new layout, etc). Once it is up to snuff I’ll start looking into some alternative hosting options. I’ll keep you guys updated.
We’ll be announcing our new schedule on the Orangemarmalade show which should be up a little earlier than previously mentioned (pre October 2nd). Again, I can’t think everyone enough for the kind words and kind donations this past week. Thanks for reminding me why I started this podcast in the first place. Here’s a song to sum it all up.
We’ll be recording with Orange at noon on Saturday the 26th (cross your fingers). We’ll also be making an announcement the same day regarding ArenaCast in general. In case you didn’t see it, there is now a donate button on the page and the ads have been removed. I’m not telling people to donate (the show is still free), but it is just there if you feel obliged. All money will be put forward to updating the site design, getting new, faster, hosting, and overall improvements to the show itself. We’ll document where and who the donations go to if we get any. Oh, and we’re not dead.
But like all good things, they must come to an end. How cliche of me. But yeah, we’re stopping production of ArenaCast.
As you can tell the past couple of episodes, or the fact we didn’t have a show for a full month, things have been sluggish and not as energy-filled as some of the episodes earlier in the summer. Me and Keith both decided that the amount of time and effort it takes to put into the show isn’t worth it anymore. With school starting back up, I know I’ve been busy. Keith can share his words on what he’s been busy with if he wants to — that’s up to him.
The Orangemarmalade show (if it happens, Orange hasn’t spoken to me in about a week) will be our final show. We’ll talk a little bit more about the fact we’re shutting down etc. If the Orange show does not actually happen then we will for sure have a final episode.
I want to thank all of our listeners and the small community we’ve started in #arenacast on irc.gamesurge.net — you guys were great. The IRC channel will remain there and I will continue to idle (and I’m sure Keith will as well).
I want to thank the people who criticized us along the way even more because without you guys we would of never known what was wrong with the show or what to improve on in the first place.
Thanks Bill (Lame) from Nurfed for helping with the hosting of the podcast for almost 9 months now. I cannot thank you enough. I also owe Jared and Ziot a lot of thanks as well for helping me get this (shit) site up and running. I’m sure I’m forgetting someone, I’ll prepare a better list for the final show and make sure I don’t miss anyone.
I’ll post on when we decide to do the final show here in a week or so. See you then.
UPDATE: Igoaf still doesn’t have internet. Kintt most likely dodged the show dedicated to him like a douche. Taking stream down. Show canceled.
Today on the show we celebrate the life of Nathan ‘Kintt’ Quinn, one of WoW eSports most well known names. Join us to say goodbye to the Wing King tomorrow at 4 p.m. CST.
Ustream will be posted below with a downloading of the show afterward. See you then.
Here in America, the Korean World of Warcraft scene is something we, or even our friends across the pond, know little about. In a couple of weeks, we’re going to try to change this.
While working at Major League Gaming Dallas this past month, Button Bashers Mage Orangemarmalade made friends with a lot of the WoW players and commentators. Since the tournament, myself and a lot of players have been talking with him online because his English is actually quite good. This got me to thinking about bringing him on ArenaCast in the future, but I didn’t want to make it like every other episode — it had to be different.
For this special episode, I’m trying to get as many communities involved. If you have any questions for Orange yourself you can send them to questionsfororange AT gmail DOT com. These questions will be asked (as long as they are appropriate) to Orange himself and we will try our hardest to ask every question submitted (as long as they are appropriate).
The deadline for question submission is Saturday, September 26th. Thanks for all those who submit a question. We are all looking forward to this very special episode.
UPDATE: Show is posted below. I got rid of the Ustream player and found a way to export the show as an mp3 so it is now available for download below. You find out at the end of the show why this problem occurred. See you all next week.
Yes, its been about three, maybe four… It’s been a long time since we’ve done an actual show. That all changes tomorrow as ArenaCast is back at 4 p.m. CST!
Show Ustream will be posted below. After the show a download link will be provided (like always). See you all tomorrow!
